Intercom
Intercom systems have progressed beyond basic voice communication between two points.
Typically they are networked systems that include multiple stations, speakers, cameras and electronic hardware that can maximise a building’s operation – from a dedicated and secure environment.
An intercom system can operate through its own proprietary cabling system, or be incorporated within a shared TCPIP network utilised to distribute a variety of other building services.
It can be used exclusively for voice communication (and the quality of this intelligibility can vary), or incorporate video footage.
Calls can be diverted through a defined escalation process – or alternatively sent off-site for action by others. Remote activation of electric door locks, alarms, or other electronic functionality is available through most commercial systems now available.
